Consumer confidence experienced a significant drop, falling to 89.8 from February's 94.6, indicating a notable decline in sentiment from typical levels. The trade sector also saw a downturn in sentiment, decreasing to 103 from 108.7, with firms in the grocery and motor vehicle trades expressing considerable pessimism. The services sector reflected similar weakening (97.9 from 99.7), as businesses continued to report dissatisfaction with order volumes, consistent with February's levels. Contrasting this trend, the building and civil engineering sector witnessed an uplift in confidence, rising to 101.6 from 98.6, along with the manufacturing industry, which saw a modest increase to 96.4 from 95.6.
