Air Canada Orders Five Additional Airbus A220s

Air Canada has entered into a definitive agreement with Airbus to acquire an additional five A220-300 aircraft, enhancing their next-generation single-aisle fleet. This decision builds on an initial 2016 order for 45 A220-300 planes, followed by an acquisition of 15 more in 2022. With this recent order, Air Canada's total commitment to the A220-300 reaches 65 aircraft.

John Di Bert, Air Canada's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, remarked, "Over its five years in service, the A220 has reliably met our expectations, enabling us to explore new routes and effectively enhance existing ones. This aircraft's favorable economic profile aligns well with our strategy for profitable growth, and it has garnered positive feedback from our customers. We are pleased to expand our fleet with five additional A220-300s, crafted in Mirabel, Quebec, strengthening our support for Canada's aerospace sector and located conveniently near our Montreal headquarters."

As the North American launch operator of the A220-300 in January 2020, Air Canada has since utilized this fleet to serve over 70 destinations.
