Speaking about the oil world and characterizing its some features, we quite often use a word like "giant". Platforms, deposits, tankers and many other things can be giant. There are, however, objects that are too large even for this world. Below, there are the five most grandiose structures of mankind.

Three Gorges Dam is located in China and is the world's largest power station. Its capacity is over 22 thousand megawatts, which is equivalent to approximately 22 giant nuclear power plants. The project is estimated at 28 billion dollars, it was launched in 2008. Scientists call it a technological breakthrough, and environmentalists - a catastrophe.

Prelude is the world's first floating plant for LNG production. Shell, apparently, approached the limit of its capabilities when building this complex. The length of the ship is 488 meters, its width reaches 74 meters, and the mass exceeds 600 thousand tons. The capacity of the floating facility is approximately 3.6 million tons of LNG per year. Prelude will work in the north-east of Australia, 300 miles from the coast.

Berkut is the deepest and, apparently, the highest oil platform. The facility is estimated at about 12 billion dollars, its weight reaches 200 thousand tons. It is planned to produce about 100 thousand barrels of oil a day on this platform. Berkut is intended for work in harsh conditions near the Russian coast of the Pacific Ocean near the island of Sakhalin.

Perdido is considered to be the deepest oil platform in the world. Its depth reaches 2.45 km. This complex is located in the Gulf of Mexico and is operated by Shell, which owns 35% of the shares. The production of oil and gas on Perdido started in 2010.

The owner of the world's largest ship, Pieter Schelte, is the Swiss company Allseas. The construction of the giant ship cost $1.7 billion. If we compare the ship to the world-famous constructions, its length corresponds to the height of the Empire State Building and the width to the Tower of Elizabeth (formerly Big Ben).
