Czech Republic

The first place in this list is occupied by the Czech Republic. It is the most economically and politically stable country. Moreover, it is an industrial country where fuel and energy, metallurgical, machine-building, chemical, food, and light industries are well developed. The Czech Republic has one of the most productive economic systems. In March 1999, the country joined NATO and in May 2004 became a member of the European Union.

Japan is on the second place in the IEP ranking. It is a developed and peaceful country. Japan has a very high level of life expectancy and low infant mortality. Experts believe that the standards of living here are almost a benchmark for other countries.

Republic of Slovenia

The Republic of Slovenia takes the honorable third place in this list. It is a South European country with a dynamically developing economy. In March 2004, the country joined NATO and two months later it became a member of the European Union. Slovenia has the highest nominal GDP per capita.

Singapore

Singapore is on the fourth place among the most peaceful countries. It is a highly developed country with a market economy and low taxation. Transnational corporations play a crucial role in Singapore's economy. The country is ranked as East Asian "tigers" for the economic breakthrough that brought the economy to the level of developed countries. Singapore’s market is dominated by the production of electronics, shipbuilding, and financial services. Moreover, the country pays great attention to biotechnological researches.

Canada

Canada is on fifth place in this ranking. It is the second biggest country in North America. Notably, Canada is a bilingual multicultural country where English and French are two official languages. Canada is a technologically and industrially advanced country with a diversified economy based on rich natural resources and trade.

Denmark

Denmark is on the sixth line in the list of economically and politically stable countries. It is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries. Denmark has been a member of the European Union since 1973 but quite surprisingly it is still not a part of the eurozone. The country is considered one of the founders of the NATO bloc and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Austria

Austria takes seventh place in the IEP ranking. The country is a member of the UNO and the European Union. In 1955, Austria declared permanent neutrality. Austria adheres to the policy of non-alignment with any military blocs.

Portugal

The eighth place among the most peaceful countries is held by Portugal. It is the westernmost state in continental Europe located on the Iberian Peninsula. The main foreign trade partners of this industrial and agricultural country are the EU countries.

New Zealand

New Zealand is ninth in the list. It is a developed country with a market economy based on agriculture, manufacturing, food industry, and tourism. The country's economy is export-oriented. The main trading partners are Australia, the US, Japan, and China.

Iceland

Iceland closes the IEP rating of the most peaceful countries. It is located in the West of Northern Europe. The country has almost no military forces except the Icelandic coast guard (ICG). In peacetime, there are no other military forces.
