In 2004, a large tsunami with the epicenter of three thousand kilometers away from the Maldives caused irreparable damage to the territory. A lot of coral atolls submerged completely. Now it is crucial for residents of the Maldives to stop the destruction of coral reefs. They are natural wave cutters that prevent the islands from sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
