According to the estimates of the reinsurance company Swiss Re, the natural and man-made disasters of the outgoing year claimed the lives of more than 10 thousand people. At the same time, the costs of liquidation of their consequences amounted to 158 billion dollars. The August earthquake in central Italy is considered to be one of such disasters. Damage from it is estimated at € 3-4 billion.

Natural disasters didn't ignore the United States. Forest fires, recorded in Tennessee, have caused damage to the budget of $500 million.

In October, the hurricane "Matthew" hit the southern part of Haiti. The losses from the destruction reached $1.89 billion.

The flooding that occurred in Louisiana (USA) in August, submerged about 60 thousand homes. Many people were forced to leave their homes, 13 people were killed. Damage from the disaster amounted to $20 million.

August was full of catastrophes. This month, the volcanic eruptions occurred in Indonesia. At least 13 tourists were declared missing after the eruption of the volcano Barudzhari.

The beginning of autumn was also sad: in the end of September the typhoon Sarika hit the South China. The damage caused by the natural disaster reached $813 million.

In April, natural disasters have affected Japan. Kyushu Island has undergone a devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.3. Because of the happened disaster numerous landslides and soil displacement occured, homes and bridges were collapsed. The number of tremors reached 500.

Late spring was not easy for the people of Canada. In May in Alberta wildfires broke out. Damage from the disaster reached $2.75 billion - a record for the entire history of the country.

In November, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.9 happened in New Zealand. Economic losses from the catastrophe totaled $5.8 billion.

In December, in Aceh, Indonesia, the earthquake of magnitude 6.5 occurred. The number of natural disaster victims reached 100 people.

It is good to admire the volcanic eruption from afar, but when it is very close, you get scared for your life. In February, the Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador has been throwing out lava and ash in a few days. The radius of emissions was more than five kilometers.
