Amish community in Lancaster County, United States

The Amish are an extremely conservative Christian community. They are avidly religious and reject much of modern science. This movement has spread across the world. Yet, its largest population lives in the United States, with the Pennsylvania Amish of Lancaster County being the biggest fellowship. They value only manual labor and never use cars and other equipment.

Hahoe Folk Village, South Korea

This South Korean village from the Joseon Dynasty was founded 7 centuries ago. It has preserved many structures of that time. The village of Hahoe is home to traditional choga houses with roofs made of straw. These nature-friendly houses were inhabited by middle and lower-class people. At first glance, the village resembles a museum. However, life is still in full swing here with locals performing ancient rituals, cooking traditional Korean food, and wearing national costumes

Tombstone cowboy town, United States

This small American town with a population of over 1,000 people came as if from a Western movie. Saloons, colonial-style houses, and log cabins decorated with false facades still line its streets. Of course, there are no real cowboys and gold diggers in Tombstone anymore. Yet, its buildings in Wild West style attract tourists, which is a win-win situation for locals. They regularly give stage performances and host themed quests and role-playing games for visitors.

Fishing villages on Inle Lake, Myanmar

Inle is a freshwater lake located in the southern Shan State of Myanmar. As many as 17 villages sit on its banks. Here villagers have a unique lifestyle. Their bamboo houses stand on stilts right in the water. In fact, locals grow vegetables and fruit and cultivate other agricultural products on the lake. However, fishing has been their main activity for ages.

Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey, France

The Mont Saint-Michel Abbey is located in Normandy. Built for the Bernardine monks in the 10th century, it has been perfectly preserved to this day. The abbey is open to tourists. They can visit a local church, galleries, and other buildings of the abbey, including a refectory, and ancient gardens.
