R-Pharm
The top rank is given to R-Pharm founded in 2001. The Moscow-based company is evaluated at 73.41 scores out of the total 100. It belongs to the group of companies established by billionaire Aleksey Repik who possesses 90% of the stock. R-Pharm has been booming since 2009 when the company set up its own production facility in Yaroslavl. Next year, R-Pharm bought enterprises in Novosibirsk and Kostroma. The first one was sold in 2017. In 2011, the company created a research division, R-Pharm Overseas, that operates in the US. At present, the pharmaceutical giant deals with permanent projects in different CIS countries, Germany, and Turkey. Japan’s Mitsui&Company, Ltd. got interested in R-Pharm three years ago. The Japanese partners acquired 10% of its shares. The acquisition deal is estimated at $196 million.
Biocad
Biocad is the second best on the list. The overall score in the rating is 43.44. The company was founded in 2001 in Saint Petersburg by Dmitry Moroz and Andrey Karklin. The latter sold its stake to Gazprom in 2011. In 2014, entrepreneur Viktor Kharitonin in tandem with Roman Abramovitch acquired 70% of the stock. However, the latter also sold his stake a year later. The first production facility was built in a village in the Moscow region. At present, this is the only company in Russia that manages the whole cycle of creating medicines from inventing a molecule to marketing strategies.
Generium
The third place on the podium is occupied by Generium established in 2011 in the Vladimir region. Its overall score is 25.82. The company is headed by Viktor Kharitonin who also founded Pharmstandard. Generium is a full-cycle research corporation that manages nearly 15,000 m2 of production facilities and 4,500 m2 of laboratories. The company urgently responds to the market needs that ensures its commercial success. Generium registered its own method of testing the coronavirus infection with 94% accuracy as early as in April this year. This is the first test produced in Russia. Its most important feature is a prompt result which is available in 40 minutes.
Valenta Pharm
Valenta Pharm is ranked fourth on the list with its 25.25 scores. It embarked on the pharmaceutical market in 1997. A vast array of medicines is produced on its facility in the Moscow region, including both over-the-counter medications and drugs by prescription in the fields of immunology, virus therapy, antibacterial therapy, gastroenterology etc. The company launched such time-tested medicines as ingavirin, grammidin, trimedat, phenasepam which have proven their efficiency. Nowadays, more than 50% of its assortment is included in the list of vitally important medicines in Russia.
Pharmasyntez
The fifth place on the list is given to Pharmasyntez. The company was founded in Irkutsk in 1997. It deserves 25.05 scores. Interestingly, its founder is Vikram Puniya, the Indian citizen who entered the Irkutsk Medical University in 1992. The entrepreneur earned his first money supplying medicines to Yakutiya’s government. Later, he decided to shift his business to a new level. In the team with two partners, the businessman registered a new trademark, Pharmasyntez. The company owes its commercial success to the production of generic drugs. At present, the company is one of the largest suppliers to hospitals across Russia. Moreover, Pharmasyntez produces socially important medicines applied in the treatment of tuberculosis, HIV, cancer, diabetes, hepatitis etc. The company manages five facilities around the country with a total production capacity of 70 million items per year.
