Montenegro Trade Deficit Widens in February

In February 2025, Montenegro witnessed an expansion in its trade deficit, which reached EUR 269.3 million, rising from EUR 244.4 million in the same month last year. When compared to the previous year, exports saw a significant decline of 13.2%, amounting to EUR 53.6 million, while imports experienced a 5.5% increase, totaling EUR 322.9 million. For the period spanning January to February 2025, exports fell by 10.3% compared to the same timeframe the preceding year, reaching EUR 96.8 million. This decrease was largely due to reduced sales of manufactured goods primarily categorized by material (-56.1%), machinery and transport equipment (-49%), and beverages and tobacco (-48.2%). Conversely, imports rose by 5.3% to EUR 563.3 million, mainly fueled by increased purchases of animal oils and fats (20%), mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials (16.9%), alongside beverages and tobacco (12.7%).
