On Sunday, January 31, ten senators from the Republican Party spoke out against the proposal made by US President Joe Biden. The newly elected President was planning to launch the stimulus program worth $1.9 trillion.
Joe Biden decided to settle the disagreement by means of negotiations. However, according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, the US President had no intention to curtail the large-scale stimulus programs adopted earlier. Jen Psaki also emphasized that the rapid virus spread was one of the main issues that might shape the US government decision. Notably, the coronavirus pandemic has significantly damaged the national economy.
On Sunday, Mr. Biden talked to Ms. Collins and invited her and other signers “to come to the White House early this week for a full exchange of views.”
On Monday, February 1, President Biden met with ten Republican senators in the Oval Office.
