Queens of capital: Top 5 wealthiest American women

Forbes has recently released its latest ranking of the richest women in the United States. Let's take a look at those who dominate this prestigious list

1st place – Alice Walton

At the top of the list is 74-year-old Alice Walton, whose net worth is estimated at nearly $89 billion. Alice is the only daughter of Sam Walton, the founder of retail giant Walmart. Unlike her brothers, who are heavily involved in running the company, Alice has focused on art and philanthropy. In 2011, she opened the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in her hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas. Two years ago, she established the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, which emphasizes holistic healthcare approaches.

2nd place – Julia Koch

Claiming the second spot is 62-year-old Julia Koch, with a personal fortune of about $77 billion. Julia inherited more than 40% of Koch Industries after the death of her husband, billionaire David Koch, in 2019. Koch Industries is the largest privately held company in the United States, with operations spanning oil, chemicals, and more. Today, Julia Koch is actively involved in philanthropy, supporting various cultural and educational initiatives. Recently, she donated $75 million to build an outpatient center in New York.

3rd place – Jacqueline Mars

Third place goes to 84-year-old Jacqueline Mars, heiress and co-owner of Mars Inc., the global maker of candy, pet food, and beverages. Her personal fortune stands at around $48 billion. Jacqueline owns a third of the company founded by her grandfather. She played an active role in the family business, serving as president of Mars Inc. from 1982 until her retirement in 2001. Today, she is a philanthropist who supports institutions such as the National Opera and the National Gallery of Art.

4th place – MacKenzie Scott

MacKenzie Scott, a 54-year-old novelist and philanthropist with a net worth of nearly $35 billion, ranks fourth. Scott became one of the world's wealthiest women after her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, receiving 4% of Amazon's stock. She was deeply involved in the company's early days, managing accounting and logistics. Since the divorce, Scott has focused on philanthropy, donating more than $17 billion to 2,300 organizations since 2019.

5th place – Lyndal Stephens Greth

Rounding out the top five is 49-year-old Lyndal Stephens Greth, daughter and heir of Autry Stephens, the founder of Endeavor Energy Resources (pictured). Her fortune is estimated at $32 billion. Previously serving as vice chair of the company, she became chair of the board after her father’s death in 2024. Autry Stephens started out as an engineer and founded Endeavor in 1979, building it into one of the largest private oil producers in the United States, with assets in the Permian Basin.
