Finland Trade Balance Swings To Surplus In May

In May, Finland shifted its foreign trade balance from a deficit to a surplus, according to preliminary data released by Finnish Customs on Friday. This turnaround was primarily driven by a sharper decline in imports compared to exports.

The trade surplus for May stood at EUR 125 million, a significant improvement from the deficit of EUR 190 million recorded in the same month last year.

Year-over-year, exports saw a 4.1 percent decrease, while imports fell more substantially at a rate of 9.8 percent.

Regarding trade within the European Union, exports dropped by 6.0 percent, and imports from EU countries decreased by 5.6 percent. For non-EU countries, the decline was 5.4 percent in exports, whereas imports plummeted by 16.7 percent.
