Tesla Initiates Recall Of Over 27,000 Cybertrucks Over Rearview Camera Issue

Tesla Inc. (TSLA) is recalling approximately 27,000 Cybertruck units due to an issue with the rearview camera, which could potentially elevate the risk of an accident, as reported by numerous media sources.

A filing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that the rearview display in the Cybertruck may take up to eight seconds to activate when the vehicle is in reverse, surpassing the two-second requirement stipulated by U.S. federal safety regulations.

This delay could inhibit drivers from promptly assessing the space behind them, thereby heightening the possibility of a collision.

The NHTSA stated that the Tesla Cybertruck does not meet the criteria outlined in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, concerning "Rear Visibility."

Tesla has addressed this issue by issuing an over-the-air software update at no cost to the owners of the affected vehicles.

According to CNN, this marks the fifth recall for this electric vehicle since its debut last year.

Recently, Tesla recalled 11,383 Cybertrucks due to improperly adhered plastic trim on the truck bed's edge, which could become loose and detach during operation. Additionally, 11,688 units were recalled due to a front windshield wiper defect that could impair visibility and increase accident risk, according to a NHTSA report filed in June.
