Germany to phase out Russian energy imports

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced Germany would stop its oil imports from Russia by the end of 2022 as part of a plan to phase out Russian energy imports. Berlin is striving to reduce its dependence on Russian supply in response to Moscow using energy imports for political leverage. Baerbock stated that while Germany could not fix its past mistakes, it could still reduce its reliance on Russian energy. "I therefore say here clearly and unequivocally yes, Germany is also completely phasing out Russian energy imports," the German Foreign Minister said.

"We will halve oil by the summer and will be at 0 by the end of the year, and then gas will follow, in a joint European roadmap," Baerboсk added.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said France had no need for Russian gas. According to Macron, France was taking steps to import natural gas from other countries. The French president urged other EU partners to impose an embargo on Russian oil.
