Elon Musk’s Tesla sues Indian namesake

The management of Tesla has filed a lawsuit against Tesla Power India, citing trademark conflicts between the two companies. The stumbling block is their shared brand name.

The American automaker is not going to leave the matter unresolved and has initiated legal action against the namesake headquartered in Gurgaon, India. Notably, this contentious issue has a long history. Tesla's leadership discovered the Indian company using names similar to its own back in 2022. However, despite a cease-and-desist notice sent by the electric vehicle giant, the India-based battery maker continued to advertise its products under trade names "Tesla Power" and "Tesla Power USA".

Consequently, Tesla has resorted to legal recourse. In response, Tesla Power India reiterates its commitment not to manufacture or sell electric vehicles under trademarks containing the word "Tesla".

By the way, Elon Musk's planned trip to India has been postponed to the end of 2024. Reportedly, Tesla signaled its reluctance to build a factory for making electric vehicles in the country. Initially, the billionaire aimed to discuss this venture with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
